Project Overview
ECS Group completed the structural upgrade of two retaining walls located either side of the East Tunnel entrance at London Zoo. The works included demolition of the existing wall, piled foundations and construction of new reinforced concrete retaining walls and piers, followed by the reinstatement and upgrading of the surrounding external areas.
Key Scope of Works
• Demolition of the existing brick retaining wall
• Installation of 13 CFA piles with embedded steel sections
• Reinforced concrete retaining walls and piers
• Alterations to existing manholes and covers
• Regrading and resurfacing of the surrounding area
• Concrete coping stones, timber seating and planters
Project Delivery
The works were delivered within a fully operational zoo and carefully coordinated around its day-to-day activities. Access, deliveries, piling, demolition and concrete operations were planned in close coordination with the wider project team to maintain safe segregation from zoo staff, visitors and ongoing operations. ECS managed the restricted access, existing structures, buried services and surrounding public areas while maintaining progress and minimising disruption throughout the works.
